I Love Lists

If you're like me, lists just make you feel better.  So, yes, I'm going to make a list of things I'm thankful for, especially today.  This list has the potential to go on for pages and pages and pages, but I'll try to limit the length :)

The undying support of my friends and family
Glasses on days my eyes cannot possibly handle contacts
Bobby pins for days like these when I don't want to mess with my hair.  Wait, that's everyday :)
Good smelling shampoo
T Swift songs
Sunshine
Victories over bugs (it's the little things in life)
New music
Sex and the City
Memories
My health
Sweet pictures of my nieces and nephew
Hugs
Lunchtime with Shmegina, guaranteed to make even the brightest days brighter
Gchat
The fact that I'm going to the beach in THREE days!
And the undying support of my friends and family (yup, I'm really thankful for this one)

The Power of Girlfriends

So this weekend was all about girl time.  It's amazing what just a little time spent with girlfriends can do for one's soul.  It had been quite a while since Nae Nae, Peanut, and Pookie had all been together (long story on the ghetto nicknames, but all you really need to know is that we took some silly facebook quiz and the names have stuck with us for over a year now).  Regardless of all the time that had passed, we picked up right where we left off.  We laughed til we cried, we dodged popping champagne corks (Peanut took cover in the bathroom and Pookie was in fetal position with a pillow over her head in the corner because they were both so terrified of the flying corks), we were hit on by a group of 50 year old men, and most importantly, we made memories that will last a lifetime.

I realize this post does not directly relate to what I promised this blog would be about: struggles.  But I was reminded this weekend that when I am struggling with something in life, be it big or small, my girlfriends are ALWAYS there for me, even if we haven't talked in months.  There is no better food for the soul than time spent with girlfriends, and I am so thankful for the irreplaceable ones in my life.

The time is now...

Alrighty.  The time has come to stop procrastinating, something we are ALL guilty of, (if you're not, well, I don't want to hear about it) and actually start this blog.  The procrastination got so bad that I even justified cleaning my toilet AND my shower.  Why, you ask, did I continue to put this blog off?  Oh my, the list is quite lengthy, but if you must know, a couple of the reasons included: 1) my lack of confidence in my writing skills and 2) my hesitancy about the subject of this blog (is it too personal? do I REALLY want people to know these things about me?).  As my ideas for this blog began to multiply by the hundreds in this tiny head of mine, I knew it was time to start blogging before I got too overwhelmed and decided against it all.

I must admit, never in a million years did I think I would ever join the world of blogging.  When I first heard of blogs several years ago, I thought, "Who blogs besides egocentric people who think that their lives and the events in it are so important that other people should read about it?" Now, several years later, my mind has been completely changed.  Call it maturing, perhaps.  Just a few days ago I was bored at work (story of my life) and began reading the blog of a very good college friend.  My blog will never be as good as hers (she has such a talent for writing it's nearly sickening), but reading it definitely inspired me to start my own.  I believe blogging is such a great way of uniting people; by reading blogs, we realize how similar we all are and how, despite our differences, we share so many similar experiences.

As a person only three years out of college, it is still engrained in me to have a thesis to anything I write. Because I know myself and the sporadic nature of my mind, I can guarantee you that the topic of each post will likely vary dramatically.  However, I can tell you that my mission for this blog as a whole is this: to help bloggees (what is a bloggee, you ask?  If you are reading this blog, I consider you a bloggee.  I am the blogger, you are the bloggee.) realize that we all have our own struggles.  But it is those struggles, and how hard we fight through those struggles, that help define us.  And by sharing our fight with such struggles, we can all help one another achieve the happiness we all deserve in this life.

Here's to blogging!
